Flag bearer of the Bourbon Army 1859-1860
Unfortunately, there are still doubts about the Bourbon flags and who carried them.
We had opted for the removal of the flag bearer from the Chasseurs and Foreign Carabinieri Battalions, in reality from a new source it appears that in the last years of the reign a non-commissioned flag bearer was also introduced for the Chasseurs and that these Battalions had two insignia. These Battalions and the three Foreigners in fact operated on the field in two sub units, probably each one had an insignia carried one by the non-commissioned officer carrying the flag, the other by the First Sergeant(Foriere Maggiore).
For this reason we have chosen to reintroduce the old flag bearers in the Chasseurs and Foreign Carabinieri Battalions, leaving each buyer the choice in each command packet.
For Linea e Guardia the speech is the same therefore in each command packet of all the Bourbon infantry there is this option:
- Flag bearer officer
- NCO Flag bearer
- First Sergeant (Foriere Maggiore)
We could hypothesize this solution:
Line and Guard Infantry
in case of war each Regiment added a battalion for a total of 3, therefore:
1st Battalion Officer flag bearer
2nd Battalion NCO flag bearer
3rd Battalion First Sergeant (Foriere Maggiore)
Chasseurs Battalions
They operated in the field in 2 tactical units, each with a banner therefore:
1st unit: NCO flag bearer
2nd unit: First Sergeant (Foriere Maggiore)
NB: The flag officers can very well be used as NCOs if you remove the golier from the first ones and do not paint any fillet on the sleeves of the overcoat and on any kepì.
